PERFORMANCE
A Case for the Existence of God tells the intimate story of two single fathers. They come from very different backgrounds and struggle with different challenges: one with financial problems, the other with adoption procedures and the fear of failing as a father. Slowly, an unexpected friendship develops between them. In their encounter, they explore in a meandering and empathetic way how to hold on to hope when life almost paralyzes you. Beneath all their differences, they discover a shared ground that makes them less lonely and enriches them with a sense of humanity that, within the performance, could almost be called “divine.”
SCENOGRAPHY
The scenographic elements are not realistic but rather seismographic: they register emotional and relational movements within a universal, timeless space. While the office in the script emphasizes social reality, we searched for a more existential context. The square, rotating “island” on the black, reflective floor still refers to the cubicle of a polished business environment. The bench is concrete enough to support actions, yet abstract enough to move away from a realistic setting. The fluorescent lighting underlines the clinical character of the office, while also suggesting time and continuity.
