Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot and Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti invite visitors to pause and reflect on the twilight zone between creation and decay. In a space of dust returning to dust — as all living things eventually do. Or perhaps turning to liquid. Floating, carrying, lifting, supporting — the complex life, trapped or freed, retreating into a ‘carrier bag’. From the outside it may appear lifeless, but inside it bubbles, transforms, and incubates. We move past it, mourning the soup of life, making our way through the compost heap, where the old is digested and space is made for the new. Inspired by the thinking of Brazilian activist Vanessa Machado de Oliveira, Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot invites visitors, at MU’s invitation, to come together in the organic and technological fractures of our disintegrating world — and to guide it gently, collectively, toward its end.
design
In the dimly lit space of the MU Hybrid Art House, an otherworldly landscape unfolds. Cocoon-like structures hang in wavy formations, varying in size, offering shelter and connection. On the floors, projections create the illusion of hidden lakes, gently rippling beneath your feet. The exhibition is shrouded in darkness, evoking a sense of quiet introspection. Altar-like spaces invite contemplation and the offering of personal gestures. Surrounding these areas, video channels depict a variety of scenes and narratives, forming a rich, organic universe that feels both technological and deeply human.
