performance
Theatrical adaptation of the novel A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham. The friends Jonathan, Bobby, and Clare are deeply connected. They are friends, lovers, partners, and rivals; they form an alternative family. The trio moves from New York to the countryside. In the midst of the AIDS crisis of the 1990s, they are trying to find another form of coexistence that goes beyond the conventional family structure.
design
The young characters from the piece are rebuilding their world together. This is a story about how people can still create a family to feel at home, even if their relationships do not match the classical ideal. Much like these characters, we comfortably rearrange an existing order. The set consists entirely of old storage materials from the Oostpool theatre company. These composite fragments represent their energy and creativity. The different materials together form a unity: a space that is both tight and playful.
