performance
For comedy duo Yentl en De Boer magic arises at the unexpected moments in life when everything comes together, when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It is the moment when you are lifted above the everyday life. In their performance they look for the scarce feeling of bliss and the human inability to recognize and grasp happiness.
design
The design concept sprung from a quote by Albert Camus. According to him, the ability to experience happiness (or ‘magic’ in this case) stems from a sense of absurdity and alienation: “Rising, streetcar, four hours in the office or the factory, meal, streetcar, four hours of work, meal, sleep -– this path is easily followed most of the time. But one day the “why” arises.” You come to regard yourself as an actor on a set devised by others. “Then it happens that the stage sets collapse. And in that weariness tinged with amazement, it begins…”. We made a decor that is only finished when it crashes. What promised to become a glamorous spectacular show already falls apart in the first song. But that is where the magic starts.
