Old Cooks

Actresses Nadja Hüpscher and Bodil de la Parra share memories of their youth, and reconstruct family stories and the Indonesian past of their parents and grandparents.

The heart of the performance is a crowded Indonesian kitchen. It’s warm, cosy, full of emotions, and full of things: there’s a story behind everything, and everything that is there will be or can be used to tell that story. Musician and composer Kees van der Vooren conducts the (cooking) instruments, stands behind the stove, and disperses rhythms and sounds, as well as delicious scents.
